Configuring and Enabling DSPAM on Zimbra server

Now a days zimbra is getting more and more popular among the email user due to its stability and user frindly features. Though the Spam email still an issue in online email communication. Lets do ban spam with help of some open source anti spam tools like DSPAM. DSPAM is the open source and powerful tool to track spammers and get them block. It also come with self spam learning feature which increases its database of the spammer and help to improve spam activities day by day.

Lets see how to configure it on zimbra server step by steps :

Open file /opt/zimbra/conf/

uncomment the below line

#$dspam = ‘/opt/zimbra/dspam/bin/dspam';

Now stop and start zmamavisdctl service to read the changes we just done :

#zmamavisdctl stop

#zmamavisdctl start

amavis is now can be configure with the dspam which can control the spam scores right from -1 to 10 ( -1 for BAD and positive 10 for spam )

Edit /opt/zimbra/conf/

Locate the line %%uncomment LOCAL:amavis_dspam_enabled%% mail_body_size_limit => 64000, score_factor => 1

Change the value of score_factor from 1 to something else.

or you may do the same by changing /opt/zimbra/amavisd/sbin/amavisd
go to

“$spam_score = $dspam_result eq ‘Spam’ ? 10 : -1;”

and change it to

“$spam_score = $dspam_result eq ‘Spam’ ? 4 : -2;”
